there has been mostly complimentary talk about governor romney saying he was a good man. he also had a good plan but there has been talk about he never really connected fully with the american people. to that point, governor jindal was asked about a comment romney made on a conference call yesterday with donors. he said he lost because president obama offered, quote gifts to young people and minorities. jindal rejected that and alluded to romney's damaging 47% comment, saying the gop had to fight for 100% of the vote. >> let's show we're the party not of big banks, wall street, of bailouts, not big business. we're the party that stands for families and small businessings, those simply working hard to pay their bills so their kids can get even better jobs. >> reporter: there's also been a lot of talk about the hispanic vote. of course president obama got 71%. mitt romney just 27%. compare that to the 44% that president bush got in 2004. you can see the party has its demographics problem. they're talking about softening their stance on immigration. possibly talking about, c

i completely agree with governor jindal. i don't think it represents the republican party, and i think it's a man who lost an election and is trying to find an excuse of why he lost it, and it's not looking in the mirror and figuring out that maybe he had flaws as a candidate that maybe he didn't run as good a campaign as president obama did, but, you know, it is very dismissive and condee sending of entire blocks of people in this country. latinos, african-americans, young people. i mean, it's just offensive. >> there's some people who stay, you know, maybe the problem was the tone here, but that fundamentally the message was accurate. i want to you hear what columnist will caine said earlier on cnn. >> with regards to young people, for instance, the forgiveness of college loan interest was a big gift. free contraceptives were a very big thing with young college age women, and obama care made a big difference for them because, you know, anybody now 26 of age or younger is going to be part of their parent's plan. now, listen

hilary, you just heard the governor of louisiana, bobby jindal, he's very critical of mitt romney, the campaign he ran. what did you make of that? >> well, i think there's just a whole lot of distancing going on. pretty typical after a losing campaign. i thought, you know, governor jindal spoke well about some of the mistakes republicans have made. a little bit of a mixed message. i think this was a values election, not the demographic election that some people like governor jindal and mitt romney have been talking about. so i think he needs to be clearer about those values. he did say we ought to not be protecting tax cuts -- you know, tax policies for the wealthy. i think the challenge for somebody like governor jindal who just is sort of sitting back and criticizing now is to take on republicans that are relevant. because mitt romney's no longer relevant. go to john boehner, go to mitch mcconnell and say let's promote these policies that help poor people that help the middle class that promote jobs. that's what the president's been trying to do. that's what he's calling for in sayin

why is it that republicans are elected governor, but mitt romney could not win the presidency? >> i think mitt is a good and decent man. we talked a lot about that here yesterday. 30 republican governor, the most we had in a dozen years. most of the battle ground states have republican governors in them leading the way, turning things around, balancing budgets, doing it while lowering tax, seeing revenues go up by improving the economy in each state. i think the reason is we laid out a clear path, clear agenda. people gravitated toward that. and unfortunately, mitt romney's campaign in the end was not able to overcome the early attacks from the obama campaign back in june and they suffered the inability to clearly lay that out. republican governors as a contrast have been able to offer a clear plan for each of our states. we're going to change america one state at a time. we're optimistic about the future with great leadership here. >> gretchen: thanks for getting >> thank you. >> gretchen: your e-mails on oak trees and allergies and chopping them down next time something made
